Bangkok to Phuket is Phuket's busiest domestic route. Many flights a day leave both Bangkok airports; departures on a 2026 booking page run from about 06:50 to 22:20.

Bangkok's two airports are on opposite sides of the city, and different airlines use each. Check the airport on your ticket before you leave your hotel.

Getting to the Bangkok airport
- Suvarnabhumi: the Airport Rail Link runs about every 15 minutes from 06:00 to 24:00. It takes 26 minutes from Phaya Thai (45 THB) and 22 minutes from Makkasan (35 THB).
- Don Mueang: the airport has a station on the SRT Red Line to Krung Thep Aphiwat, which links with the MRT Blue Line. City bus A1 runs to Mo Chit 2 bus terminal via BTS Mo Chit and MRT Chatuchak Park, about every 15 minutes from 05:45 to 24:00, for 30 THB.
Arriving at Phuket Airport
Flights from Bangkok arrive at the domestic terminal, called T3 locally; Terminal 2 handles international flights. If you fly into Thailand from abroad and connect to Phuket, note that since 1 May 2025 foreign travellers must complete the free online Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) at tdac.immigration.go.th before arrival. It is not needed for a domestic flight.
Pros: by far the fastest option, many flights a day, and usually the lowest price.
Cons: you still need to reach a Bangkok airport, then travel about 50–60 minutes from Phuket Airport to Patong, and fares rise at holidays.
From Phuket Airport to Patong and the beaches
From the airport, Patong is 38 km away, Kamala 28 km, Karon 43 km, and Kata and Rawai 48 km (about 60 minutes). Phuket Town is 33 km away, about 40 minutes. Traffic is worst between 16:00 and 19:00.

- Phuket Smart Bus: the airport route serves Patong, Karon, Kata and Rawai for a flat 100 THB per ride; Kata and Rawai take about 2 hours. The stop is outside the domestic terminal, Exit 3, on the departures level (3rd floor), not in the arrivals hall. Buses run roughly every hour, and times vary with traffic. Pay by contactless card, Thai QR (PromptPay) or cash; children under 6 ride free with a paying adult.
- Airport Bus (route 8411): goes only to Phuket Town, not to the beaches: 100 THB, about 1–1.5 hours, roughly hourly during the day.
- Grab: the official pick-up zone is near Exit 1 of the domestic terminal. The app shows the price before you book, but at busy times surge pricing can take it above the limousine price. Bolt and inDrive have fewer drivers and cannot pick up at the terminal kerb.
Overnight coach from Bangkok to Phuket
Coaches leave mainly from the Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) in western Bangkok; some services are also listed from Mo Chit 2. The ride takes about 12–13 hours, usually overnight.
Sai Tai Mai is on Borommaratchachonnani Road, on the Taling Chan side of the city. The nearest rail stations are Taling Chan on the SRT Red Line and BTS Bang Wa (about 10 km away), and you need a taxi from either. A taxi from central Bangkok costs about 250–450 THB depending on traffic, so leave plenty of time.

Sombat Tour warns that times and fares may change and that arrivals can be late in traffic. Its call centre is 1215 (06:00–20:00) or 02-030-4999. The state bus company, Transport Co. (บขส.), runs several coaches a day from about 750 THB, and Lignite Tour also serves the route.
Coaches arrive at Phuket Bus Terminal 2 on Thepkrasattri Road, about 4 km north of Phuket Town centre. From there, Smart Bus route 2 goes via Phuket Town to Patong for 50 THB.
Pros: low cost, and the overnight ride saves a night's hotel.
Cons: a very long ride in a seat rather than a bed, from a terminal far from central Bangkok.
Sleeper train to Surat Thani plus minivan
There is no train to Phuket, but an overnight sleeper to Surat Thani and a minivan suit travellers who want a bed. Since 19 January 2023, all long-distance trains leave from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central station, not Hua Lamphong. The train takes about 9–10.5 hours.

Most other evening trains reach Surat Thani between about 01:00 and 05:00; trains 85, 173 and 167 arrive at a better time for the Phuket minivans. A second-class air-conditioned sleeper berth costs about 900–1,000 THB; first class costs more, and the seats-only trains 43 and 39 cost 524 THB. Book sleepers ahead, because trains can fill up.
As of September 2026, Phantip Travel picks passengers up at its office at Surat Thani station (Phun Phin) and takes them to its office in Surat Thani Town, about 14 km away. Minivans leave there every hour from 09:00 to 17:00 and take about 4 hours 30 minutes to Phuket Bus Terminal 1, for about 300 THB. For example, train 85 reaches Surat Thani at 06:23; with the first 09:00 minivan you reach Phuket around 13:30, about 17–18 hours after leaving Bangkok. Trains can be late: if you buy the minivan ticket in advance, choose a minivan that leaves 3–4 hours after the train's scheduled arrival.

Practical tips for this route
- Luggage: with big suitcases or a group, a taxi, limousine or pre-booked car is easier than the Smart Bus, which stops at the roadside.
- Arriving late: the Airport Bus runs roughly hourly during the day only, and Smart Bus times vary, so check the Phuket Smart Bus timetable before a late flight. Metered taxi counters stay open until the last flight, and a pre-booked car waits 60 minutes free from landing.
- Children: by Thai law, children up to 6 must ride in a child seat in a car, and anyone up to 135 cm must wear a seat belt (fine up to 2,000 THB). Public buses and minivans are outside this rule. Ask for a child seat when you book.
